Las Vegas, USA

It’s hard to imagine a more challenging environment for municipal Wi-Fi than Las Vegas-a city known for its imaginative architecture, dazzling sun, and mile after mile of reflective glass. Cheetah Wireless Technologies, Inc. took on the challenge, but technical solutions from two other vendors failed to supply the scalable, high-performance Wi-Fi solution they required. Only Wireless proved capable of delivering a powerful and profitable network infrastructure that could handle the challenging environment of the Las Vegas Strip.

GO Net Systems Wi-Fi solutions deliver a superior combination of in-building penetration, support for multiple branded-content virtual networks, and rapid deployment. In fact, the very real advantages of the GO Net System’s approach convinced Cheetah Wireless to begin the replacement of its existing Wi-Fi network. The determining factor in their decision was the patent-pending xRF™ smart antenna technology developed by GO Net System. The powerful in-building penetration solution enables GO Net System base stations to double, and in some cases triple, the number of supported customers on a per-unit basis.

Pavlov Media, Champaign Illinois

Founded in 1992 to provide students with Internet connectivity, Pavlov Media has grown into a national company that provides triple-play television, phone, and Internet service. Focusing on the multi-dwelling unit (MDU) marketplace, Pavlov uses wireless connectivity to deliver flexible, cost-effective connectivity options to individuals living in apartment buildings and other residential communities.

As soon as Pavlov Media gave GoNet Systems the green light, preliminary testing began at the downtown headquarters. A site survey was conducted by deploying an xRF-enabled GoNet Systems MBW 1000 series pico cell base station on the roof of the headquarters, and another at street level. As expected, a high noise threshold was detected.

Even though the installation was deployed in a challenged environment, the xRF-enabled base stations from GoNet Systems were able to cut through the interference and deliver high-bandwidth, stable connectivity. Unlike access points from other vendors that operate using an omnidirectional, point-to-multipoint broadcast pattern, the GoNet Systems base stations deliver focused, dynamic beamformed signals that are classified by the FCC as point-to-point transmissions. As a result, pico cell signal strength can be boosted from 36 dBmi to a more powerful 39 dBmi.

This increase in signal strength gives the xRF-enabled GO Networks base stations several competitive advantages over products from other vendors.

Brazil Historic City of Paraty

Founded in the 1500’s, the seaside city of Paraty, Brazil is a study in contrasts. With a population of about 30,000, the city doubles in size to 60,000 during tourist season. Once the main port for shipping gold and precious stones to Europe, the city of Paraty is now focused on meeting the goals of the “Corredor Digital,” a development project of PRODERJ, the state-run IT organization. Tasked with bringing broadband Internet connectivity to 92 cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro, PRODERJ turned GO Net Systems to accomplish a seemingly impossible goal: design and deploy a broadband wireless network for the historical district of Paraty within 30 days.

Unlike conventional Wi-Fi access points, GO Networks base stations are powered by patent-pending xRF adaptive beamforming smart antenna technology [see xRF sidebar]. Purpose-built to boost signal strength and enhance network performance, this powerful, innovative technology was instrumental in the success of the Paraty Digital project. Even in areas with narrow streets and thick stone walls, the superior building penetration capabilities of the xRF base stations paved the way for a successful service rollout.

Half Moon Bay and Pacifica, USA

Just over the coastal range from Silicon Valley is Half Moon Bay, California, the site of the nation’s first outdoor Wi-Fi network. Deployed and successfully operated for several years by Coastside Net, Inc., an independent ISP, the network provides broadband wireless service to nomadic, residential, and business users.

Coastside is focused on improving the performance of its wireless network in three key areas: seamless coverage, in-building penetration, and overall system capacity. By upgrading their existing infrastructure with equipment from GO Net Systems, Coastside was able to take advantage of GO Net Systems’s innovative xRF™ smart antenna technology to significantly upgrade network performance and service quality. The breakthrough adaptive beamforming technology is enabling the company to deliver carrier-grade Wi-Fi connectivity, providing substantial increases in signal strength and an enhanced user experience.

Switzerland Monsoon Networks

Monzoon Networks achieved its position as the second-largest wireless broadband provider in Switzerland by deploying Wi-Fi hotspots in public places. Even when the hotspots are in use, there is typically excess network capacity available that could be generating additional revenue. By repackaging available bandwidth as a new product and offering it to residences and businesses within the immediate vicinity, new markets can be opened and profitability enhanced.

Monzoon is now offering economically priced Internet connectivity in areas where xRF™-enabled GoNet Systems Wi-Fi base stations are deployed.

“We are extremely excited about the success we are having with our Wi-Fi deployments, and the pivotal role that GoNet Systems is playing. We tested a number of products, and choose GoNet Systems because of the high-performance, scalability, stability, and economic value of their solution.” Said Monzoon Networks CEO Matthias Koch.
